Luna Great Horned Owls

Luna

Name: Hawaian goddess of the moon
Date in: 3/19/95
Hatched: March 1995
Gender: Female
Age at arrival: Two-three weeks
Came from: Corydon, Indiana

Story: She was found on a woman’s property in Corydon. She was brought to us with an obvious eye injury. She was examined by a pediatric opthamologist, and it was determined that she has a detached retina and a detached optic nerve. Eventually a cataract (white spot) will form and the eye will atrophy. As long as there is no infection the eye will not be removed. Luna was imprinted because she was only two-three weeks when we received her, and weighed only 710 grams. Wild raised Great Horn Owls are very difficult to man down, so an imprinted bird is preferable for education purposes. Since Luna has matured, she has assumed the aggressive personality of a "normal" Great Horned Owl.
