Eastern Screech Owls
TidwellName:
Named after one of our volunteers that worked with him when he was youngStory:
Tidwell was found with a broken leg and taken to a Veterinary Clinic in Hopkins County. The vets there pinned his leg but being unfamiliar with birds, pinned the leg the same way they would pin a mammal leg. When the bird was brought to RROKI we discovered that a stainless steel pin had been sunk into the bird’s leg with no way to pull it out. If you sink a pin on a bird you need to use a plastic pin which is very light weight, a stainless pin would add too much weight for a bird that weighs only 4 ounces to fly. Normally stainless pins are left with a nub sticking out so the pin can be pulled after the fracture heals. Tidwell will have to remain in captivity because the pin cannot be removed.Home /Kentucky Raptors /Our Birds /Adopt A Raptor /Raptor Adoption Form / What to do if you find a raptor
