American Kestrel
Sophie
Name: Chosen from a "Name the Kestrel" contest
Date in: 06/03/00
Hatched: Spring 2000
Gender: Female
Age at arrival: Four to five weeks
Came from: Ekron, Kentucky
Story: Sophie was found in the middle of a road, and we assume a car
had hit her. Her left eye was blasted, and she is totally blind in that eye. She
also has a problem with her left wing and is not perfectly flighted. She lives
with our male Kestrel, Shelby. Sophie replaced our older female Kestrel,
Bridgette, as an education bird, and Bridgette is now able to serve as a foster
mother to orphaned Kestrel chicks.
