American Kestrel
Shelby
Name: Found in Shelby County Park
Date in: 08/10/99
Hatched: Unknown
Gender: Male
Age at arrival: Adult / unknown
Came from: Shelbyville, Kentucky
Story: We received a call from a gentleman in Shelby County who had
found an injured Kestrel in the Shelby County Park. After he met us at the
entrance he took us to the area where he had last seen the bird. Shelby was
sitting in a bush about 2 feet off of the ground. Upon examination, we found
Shelby had an open wound and exposed bone near the wrist joint of his right
wing. The vet treated him and wrapped his wing for correct healing. After a
month in the wrap we began physical therapy on the wing. Unfortunately, the bone
was dead and the wingtip fell off.
